Southeast Florida’s application was submitted by the South Florida and Treasure Coast Regional Planning Councils with support from the Broward MPO and many other organizations representing the public sector, non-profit quality growth advocacy, and local and regional economic development initiatives in August 2010.

On October 16, 2010 the Southeast Florida Regional Partnership was awarded a symbolic $4.25 Million in grant funding as part of an interagency federal partnership between US Departments of Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This grant will allow Southeast Florida to support metropolitan and multi-jurisdictional planning efforts that will integrate housing, land use, economic development, transportation infrastructure planning and investment strategies.

Looking Ahead

The Southeast Florida Regional Partnership is working to adopt a vision for future growth and a regional comprehensive plan for sustainable development to be shared by local communities, resource management agencies, and the private-sector across our seven-county area for use in shaping their own plans, policies, programs, projects, and service delivery.

The effort is not intended to create an additional layer of planning or policy, but instead begins with the premise that the consolidation of information and plans related to the individual elements of community growth (e.g., transportation, housing, economic development...) into a central place will benefit all of us interested in the long-term sustainability of the region.

Through a truly regional exercise involving partners from all walks of life and every corner of our area, we will establish a shared vision for growth, which will provide opportunities for individual agencies and organizations to improve their own plans and programs to support the overall vision for growth and sustainable development.

A Regional Consortium of Stakeholders
On July 14, 2011 the Broward MPO officially entered into the Consortium Agreement with the Regional Partnership formalizing our role and commitments of the Consortium participants to create a regional vision for sustainable communities in Southeast Florida
